ABSTRACT

Mucoadhesion, or the attachment of a natural or synthetic polymer to a biological substrate, is a practical method of drug immobilization or localization and an important new aspect of con trolled drug delivery. While the subject of mucoadhesion is not new, there has been increased interest in recent years in using mucoadhesive polymers for drug delivery (1,2). Therefore, the study and alteration of the adhesion of bioadhesive materials, as well as the diffusion of various drugs from bioadhesive devices, is of significance.
