ABSTRACT

The April 1997 edition of The Academy of Management Review featured an article, "Postmodernism and Organizational Research" (Kilduff and Mehra, 1997), which is notable for two reasons. First, it represents a rare publication on a topic considered to be extremely radical by "mainstream" American academics. Second, most academics trained to value traditional scientific methods in the field of organizational studies would consider the juxtaposition of the terms "postmodernism" and "research" in the title as a contradiction in terms-as would most postmodernists. What is postmodernism? Why does it engender such strong reactions?
