ABSTRACT

Noise, which is inevitably present in a channel, can lead to transmitted information becoming corrupted. In Chapter 1, the discussion centered around the removal of source redundancy by source coding or compression. Once data has been compressed, it becomes extremely susceptible to noise. Channel coding, also known as error control coding or for\\rard error correction (FEC), is a method where controlled redundancy is inserted into the data stream, allowing the receiver to detect and/or correct any errors introduced by the channel.
