ABSTRACT
Taken together, these studies suggest that treatment strategies directed at downmodulating the production of ceramide may slow the progression of the infection toward AIDS through reducing the rates of both apoptotic lymphocyte death and HIV replication. In this respect, preliminary work from our laboratory has pointed to L-carnitine as a candidate drag.
