ABSTRACT
To see where material selection fits in the overall process, consider the definition of "engineering" used by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in the United States. ABET is the agency that determines the strengths and weaknesses of engineering programs, and U.S. trained engineers have almost certainly studied at institutions that build their programs around this definition.
