ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION The mechanically flexible coupling meets the three basic requirements of a flexible coupling: it transmits power, accommodates for misalignment, and compensates for shaft end float. The couplings in this group obtain their flexibility from loose-fitting parts and/or the rolling or sliding of mating parts. They usually require lubrication unless one of the moving parts is made of a material that supplies its own lubrication, such as nylon (chain-on-chain couplings and sleeves-on-gear couplings).
