ABSTRACT

The increase of selectivity of Q-xylene oxidation by supporting vanadia on Ti02 (anatase) can now be easily explained. As discussed in Section III. A, the monolayer of vanadia on the surface of anatase epitaxially is oriented in such a way that the (010) crystal plane is exposed, on which the nucleophilic selective oxidation takes place, whereas the non-(010) planes, which in V205 are responsible for total combustion, are practically nonexistent.
