ABSTRACT

An alternative to slurry processing to form ceramic matrices is the use of a liquid to impregnate a fiber network, with subsequent thermal decomposition of the liquid to produce the matrix. There are a number of different types of liquid precursors, but all involve relatively large organometallic or inorganic molecules, which can be termed macromolecules. They are discussed together in this chapter, since there are overall similarities in processing despite the differences in the composite systems.
