ABSTRACT

Myowninterestinbloodgroupsanddiseasebecamereactivatedintheearly1970s, parallelingthedevelopingfieldoftumorimmunologyandourincreasingknowledgeofthe chemistryofbloodgroupantigens.Itwasofinterestthatseveralofthebasicconceptsemerging fromtumorimmunologyseemedtomeperhapstoprovidesomerationalefortheunusual statisticalrelationshipsbetweenABObloodgroupsandcancer.Ithasbecomeobviousthat someofthenewso-calledtumorantigenshadbeenidentifiedpreviouslyasbloodgroupantigens andtheirchemicalcompositionwasalreadyknownbyimmunohematologists(seebelow).
