ABSTRACT

Perhaps the major complaint of maintenance supervision is the unavailability of spare parts and materials at the time they are needed. With the increasing complexity of modem manufacturing equipment, the cost of inventorying spare parts is high. Maintaining an adequate inventory of parts and supplies and providing a procedure for getting these materials to the work site when needed is essential in a modem engineering maintenance management program. Inventory management is charged with the continuing conflict of reducing inventory dollars while avoiding stockouts.
