ABSTRACT

The Panama Canal is a 50 mile long waterway that bridges the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Begun in the 1880's by French engineers and completed in 1913 by U.S. engineers, the canal proved to be one of the greatest engineering feats of the ages. Panama possessed one of the most difficult and deadliest terrains on earth, causing numerous complications. The huge engineering project ultimately took two nations-France and U.S., the equivalent of7 billion dollars, and 25,600 lives.
