ABSTRACT

Japanese companies are appeared to be leaders in implementing concurrent engineering design and have succeeded in reducing by half the time to deliver major products such as aircraft and automobiles in comparison to that of the U.S. companies [3]. However, in the past many U.S. companies have employed concurrent engineering and reported various successes; e.g., John Deere & Co. reduced the cost of developing new construction equipment by 30% and 60% in development time, AT&T Co. succeeded in reducing 50% of the time to develop a 5ESS electronic switching system, and the Boeing company predicted

releasing design drawings of its giant 111 transport aircraft a year and a half earlier in comparison to that of its 767 plane [4].
