ABSTRACT

A polyclonal antiserum against isolate PF was raised in a 6-month-old New Zealand female rabbit by using UV-inactivated whole cells. The crude serum was fractionated on protein A columns and further purified by antiserum ad sorption with highly cross-reacting strains. The purified antiserum exhibited low cross-reactivities ( < 10%) with relevant strains and a detection sensitiv ity of 105 cells/ml. The antigenic determinants were characterized as protein components in the outer membrane (Hausner, 1997).
