ABSTRACT

This chapter - while not a complete review of bioactive marine natural products (see Faulkner, 1984) - will pay particular attention to those metabolites which have been or are being developed as pharmaceuticals, and to those compounds which have significantly aided the understanding of cellular processes at the biochemical level. A distinction between these two categories is difficult to make, as what usually distinguishes an effective drug from a molecular probe is the degree of toxicity associated with said compound.
