ABSTRACT
Plant 20-60 (80) cm tall. Rhizome creeping, with or without small tuberous outgrowths (up to 0.5 cm in diam.) Stems single or more. Leaves linear, flat, 2-8 mm broad. Inflorescence very compact, consisting of few spikelet clusters. Spikelets ovate, aggregated into heads of 5-20 each. Glumes light-colored, yellowish-white. Perianth bristles 1-6 or, more often, lacking. Stigmas 2. Nut piano-or biconvex, 2.3-2.5 mm long.
