ABSTRACT
Annual plant 5-40 cm tall. Stems several, trigonous, with 3-4 sheaths at base, only upper sheath bearing leaf blade. Inflorescence terminal, fascicled, with 3-12 spikelets. Leafy bracts 2, lower greatly enlarged at base somewhat like stem extension; as a result inflorescence appearing lateral. Spikelets oblong. Glumes almost globose, obtuse or short-acuminate, with broad pale green band at center and purple margin. Fruits obovate to globose, planoconvex, yellowish.
