ABSTRACT

Threats to species and habitats As with many other forms of wildlife, pollution, pesticides, exploitation and habitat loss and damage have had their effects on amphibian and reptile populations (Table 1). Habitat damage and loss is the main reason - but other contributing factors include road kills (Hels and Buchwald, 2001; Reh and Seitz (1990) and the indirect effect of climate change. The exploitation of crocodiles and turtles has been well documented and so also has the distasteful trade in frogs for food (frogs’ legs).
