ABSTRACT
The male reproductive system of the Urodela (Caudata) shows interesting morphological features among amphibians in particular, and among verteb rates in general. Some of these features are illustrated here. The reproductive system is formed by two testes, a system of efferent ducts, and a cloacal gland complex (Humphrey 1921; Baker 1965; Lofts 1984; Bergmann 1994; Uribe et al. 1994; Uribe 2001). The testes of urodeles are a pair of elongated structures, posterior trunk in position, and attached to the body wall by a dorsal mesentery (the mesorchium). The testes are parallel to the mesonephros, fat bodies, Wolffian or mesonephric ducts, and rudimentary Mullerian or paramesonephric ducts (Baker and Taylor 1964; Baker 1965; Lofts 1984,1987; Norris 1997; Uribe 2001).
