ABSTRACT
Studies attempting to characterize the structure of whole genomes require the use of cloning vectors that allow the insertion of large DNA fragments. This makes it possible to handle a small number of recombinant vectors while covering the whole genome. YACs (yeast artificial chromosomes) and BACs (bacterial artificial chromosomes) are among the vectors that accept large fragments.
