ABSTRACT

Some years ago, the analysis of genic expression was possible only for a single gene or a small number of genes at a time (northern blot, RT-PCR). The technique of DNA microarrays1 now allows the simultaneous measurement of the level of expression of several thousands of genes, or even an entire genome. This technology was developed in the mid-1990s and is now a standard tool for research in molecular biology and clinical diagnostics.
