ABSTRACT
Project management practitioners consistently express the view that the ultimate purpose of the project organization is to improve the abil ity of the host organization to achieve its goals.
The value of attaining unity between organizational and individ ual project strategy has been documented for thousands of years. In historical military strategy books such as Sun Tzu’s The Art o f War (ca. 500 b c ) and Carl Von Clausewitz’s On War (1850) it is repeatedly stressed that effective strategic and tactical planning treats each bat-
tie as a key building block in achieving the organization’s goals (e.g., winning the war).
