ABSTRACT

Wireless communication is expanding worldwide. Wireless technology first started with high-power transmitting equipment during the 1940s and 1950s. To efficiently protect against risk of harmful effects of radio frequency radiation, regulatory agencies, in addition to setting safety limits, need to incorporate a "safety margin" to allow for uncertainty. In the United States (US), various nongovernmental organizations such as the American National Standards Institute, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurement (NCRP) have developed Radiation Survey of Dielectric protection guidelines. The NCRP is a group chartered by the US Congress to develop documentation and recommendations pertaining to the safety of both ionizing and nonionizing radiation. The Environmental Protection Agency is an independent federal agency established in 1970. The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 established the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is part of the US Department of Labor.
