Some considerations on the needs of future development of earthquake resistant design practice and codes

Tnis paper is intended to present some remarks and suggestions concerning the development of the analytical side of codes with the objective to gradually overcome some inconsistencies of the present. The sequence adopted in the presentation was intended to be as logical as possible. This sequence, as any other sequence, may hide, at a first glance, the numerous cross-connections and feed-backs that are characteristic to the topics dealt with.
