ABSTRACT

The use of 100mm concrete cubes as a research facility for durability studies has sometimes been criticised as not providing realistic data as the specimens are quite small compared with concrete of larger dimensions in real structures. However, the outer 50-100mm of reinforced concrete is that which protects the steel reinforcement and it may not behave too differently from the concrete cubes used in the present studies. The main objective of this type of study is to obtain a comparative assessment of a range of concretes with similar mix proportions following storage in the different aggressive, environments.
