ABSTRACT

There is more choice of binder additions recognised in ENV 197 then has ever been the case with British Standards. There are also advantages in drawing together all cements and additions under a single standard. In the short-term, however, it is likely that what will be available will be cements that are currently familiar to engineers ie fly ash and slag blends. With time, and perhaps more through demand from specifiers, a wider range of materials will be available. This will give the opportunity to further tailor cements for particular requirements, such as low heat of hydration, pump mixes, low carbonation and chloride ingress rates.
