ABSTRACT

Abstract The aim of this paper is to discuss the size effect in failure mechanism of concrete under tensile stress. To characterize cracking properties of concrete, three RILEM recommendations in terms of fracture mechanics of concrete have been proposed. In this paper, some experiments were carried out to study the size dependence of these parameters. The role of fracture process zone in the size dependence is also clarified by means of a numerical simulation on the basis of the fictitious crack model. Keywords: Fictitious crack model, fracture mechanics of concrete, fracture process zone, size effect method, two-parameter model.
