ABSTRACT

Consistency of terms and definitions is a key element of any method and methodology for teaching and education. In the ever growing amount of publications used at present for teaching and education in fatigue and fracture one can often encounter confusing interpretations of terms and definitions relating to the same physical phenomenon. A need for the U F M T had long been felt and was continuously becoming more urgent. It was pointed out when the ESIS Technical Committee on Fracture Terminology was being organized [1].
