Traditionally two methods have been used in the mathematical formulation of durability design problems: the deterministic and the stochastic. A third method-the lifetime factor method-is introduced in this paper. The method has been applied and is discussed in the final report of the RILEM Committee TC 130 CSL “Durability design of concrete structures”.
