ABSTRACT

The mild but unstable climatic conditions in Iceland impose some problems for concrete structures. In the Capital there are about 80 annual freeze/thaw cycles, which is relatively high, in Copenhagen (Denmark) for instance the annual cycles are about 60 [ 1]. In order to prevent frost damage the concrete must be designed to withstand this attack. Normally, the preventive measures are to use air entrained concrete and to lower the w/c ratio.
