ABSTRACT

Abstract Alkali-silica reaction is not a common problem with regard to the Spanish aggregates, but in several conditions this kind of reaction is observed, with especial curing treatments. We have observed a concrete reaction in a pavement due to alkali-silica reaction. A general flaking was observed one year after the construction and some cones of material were flaking up. Granitic rocks presented a considerable reaction and a large quantity of gel formation was observed. A study of the reaction products was made by different techniques. Keywords: Alkali-silica reaction, BSE microscopy, Concrete, Granite, SEM microscopy.
