ABSTRACT

Introduction: The ergonomic man/machine systems approach In their constant endeavour to maintain and improve the safety and efficiency of operations, railway ergonomists and railway medical officers share the problems of fatigue and vigilance of train drivers. It can therefore be taken for granted that the two must always work in closest collaboration. However, without detracting from each other’s concern for the human operator with whom both are dealing, a distinction in the form of each one’s contribution can be made, and perhaps, the difference in approach can be usefully be highlighted.
