ABSTRACT
It is outside the scope of this volume to provide a detailed description of the immune system. Readers are invited to refer to available immunology textbooks (suggested readings include: Abbas et al, 1997; Janeway and Travers, 1996; Paul, 1993; Roitt et al, 1996). Only general concepts of relevance for immunotoxicity evaluation from the perspective of non-immunologists will be briefly recalled in this chapter.
