ABSTRACT
The vast number (>100,000) of man-made substances which may enter the natural environment require to be managed carefully.
The principles are discussed by Kemppainen and Vodela, and the regulatory aspects by Bunyan, et al. This chapter outlines the necessity of an understanding of environmental toxicology including the
assessment of environmental hazards and risk. In this connection the classification of substances dangerous to the environments is stressed.
