ABSTRACT

In a time when organisations are having to concentrate on their core business objectives, the acceptance of GIS into the IT framework should greatly assist in the integration of heterogeneous workflows and databases. However, due to the dichotomy of needs, it is often found that the user’s demands for focused applications can frequently be in conflict with the organisations demand for integration and compatibility. To safeguard the proposed investment, much time and effort is spent developing site specific IT strategies and defining the standards that need to be adopted. As technologies advance this process has to be revisited and updated.
