ABSTRACT

The solution may be the application of the appropriate technology in each particular case. Two points arise from this. First, how does the small hydropower developer obtain advice on the ‘appropriate’ technology for his particular project? For those unable or unwilling to do their own research options are by and large restricted to the established engineering consultancies, or possibly a university-based consultancy service of the type recently set up at Salford. As yet the volume of work on small schemes does not appear to be sufficient to support specialised services appropriate to the smallest of schemes, although there are moves in this general direction.
