ABSTRACT

This Section of the Report began by asking why small hydro-electric potential is not being exploited more widely. In the past, nearly all the suitable sites for water-power extraction in England, and many in Wales, have been exploited. Today few are used. In 1 947 there were 27 small hydro-electric installations that provided public supplies of electricity. Seventeen of these in England and Wales are now (it is thought) closed.
