ABSTRACT

Uniaxial tensile tests are carried out on prismatic specimens with saw cuts at the edges. The most strained zone which is located between the saw cuts is investigated by strain and displacement measurements, by ultrasonic pulse measurement, and by acoustic emission measurement with a four channel equipment. The methods are illustrated by examples which show the benefits of the method and the short-comings. At the actual state of development, none of these methods can provide full and accurate data on the degree of local damage and the size of the damage zone. Nondestructive test methods are to be further developed making use of advanced software capabilities.
