ABSTRACT

One plain cement concrete pavement slab SPCi (1.8m x 1.8m x 0.1m) was laid directly over a well compacted subgrade. Six SFRC pavement slabs SFC , SFC , SFC^, SFC , SFC6 (1.8m x 1.8m x 0.1m) containing 0.5$, 1.0%, 'I. 2 5%, 1.5% and 2 . 0 % steel fibre by volume respectively were laid directly over a well compacted subgrade. PCC and SFRC mixes were developed using conventional ACI mix design method (4). The mixes were evolved by selection of fine and coarse aggregates (passing 10 mm) having fineness moduli 2.43 and 5-99 respectively. A mix proportion of 1:1.95:1.95 by weight and water cement ratio 0*6, cement content 417 kg per cubic meter of concrete were used in this study. Hooked steel fibres, 26 SWG, with an aspect ratio 80 were used in volume fractions of 0 . 5 % , 1.055, 1 . 2555, 1 . 555 and 255. The pavement slabs were subjected to a plate load test using 300 mm diameter plate at the central, edge and corner locations.
