ABSTRACT
We now consider some procedure to solve the nonlinear system of eqns (48)—(51). The nonlinear algebraic system in terms of the nodal values u, t, ii and a has a large number of degrees of freedom. If we solve the system by means of the Newton-Raphson iterative algorithm which we used in analysing the unsteady Newtonian flow problem, a large number of matrices must be calculated at each iterative step. Thus we would prefer to adopt another approach for solving the slow flow of a Maxwell fluid.
