ABSTRACT

Ship performance monitoring has become a vital operating technique as owners strive to pare running costs to a minimum.

The EPM system identifies any reduction in performance caused by deteriorating engine efficiency and increased hull and propeller roughness. The key to the savings is careful monitoring to make sure that the machinery is oeprated within the engine builder's parameters. It thus enables an owner to monitor the exact technical diagnosis with reference to:

- optimising of fuel consumption - prevention of overloading - early recognition of failure

The stored information is used for developing maintenance procedures and fault diagnosis. The programme will generate a set of performance curves which are corrected for ambient conditions. The computer will then indicate those parameters which have exceeded the limits as defined by the curves.
