ABSTRACT

Most published information relates to centrifugal slurry pumps, although some, mainly from service experience, is also available for positive-displacement reciprocating pumps.

6.1 DESIGN ASPECTS

Want (49) suggests the following criteria should be considered when selecting a slurry pump for maximum wear life, the final choice being made on the optimum combination for a given duty:

• minimum capital and replacement parts cost, • minimum power consumption/maximum efficiency, • minimum velocities at volute throat, and impeller blade inlet and outlet, • minimum shaft speed (gland wear), • minimum NPSH required (cavitation erosion).
