ABSTRACT

The general techniques applicable to material preparation for slurry transport are the same as those used for size reduction in the mineral processing industry.

Dewatering is very important for materials such as coal, in terms of both capital and operating costs of the transport system and, insofar as the transporting water is being released to the environment, dewatering may have important repercussions. In some circumstances the inevitable loss of transported material in the separation process may be unacceptable and the difficulty and cost of dewatering fine material could well influence the choice of whether to transport the solids in a coarse or finely ground state.
