Pressure measurements are necessary in a pipeline firstly to monitor pump performance and secondly to establish the frictional head loss gradient along the line.
The measuring instrument may be mounted directly on the pipe providing it is designed to withstand the prevailing levels of vibration and its internals are not allowed to come into contact with the conveyed solids (see below).
