ABSTRACT

Part of this chapter has considered the flow characteristics of slurries composed of solids and non-aqueous carrying media and as such can be considered to be a purely technical problem. The reader may well ask, however, which of the various forms of slurry usage are likely to increase in the future? In the author's opinion the use of hydraulic transport for movement of waste material may well be a candidate. If the oil price rises CWM will become more widely used. Three-phase mixtures are also likely to be used in coal conversion technology. Other forms of slurry technology, such as borehole mining, will be employed as and when the economics dictate. Long distance non-aqueous lines will require special circumstances to become viable.
