ABSTRACT

In this chapter, a model previously developed by the authors is used for the prediction of the behaviour of sheared reinforced concrete interfaces. The model consists of adding the contribution of each separate mechanism of load transfer, taking into account their interaction.

The validity of the method is proved by comparing the shear stress, τ, versus shear slip, s, diagrams produced by applying the model with experimental τ–s curves. Subsequently, the model was applied to calculate the total energy produced up to the failure of RC interfaces, as well as the critical slip value corresponding to failure. In the examples reported in this chapter, the influence of several parameters (concrete compressive strength, percentage of reinforcement, embedment length of bars) on the total energy and critical slip was also investigated.
