ABSTRACT

A nalytical s tud ies on the nonlinear earthquake response of s ing le storey asymmetric s tru c tu ra l models since the ea rly 1960’s are reviewed, with p a r tic u la r emphasis on s tru c tu re s designed by the s ta t ic provisions of seismic codes. The e ffec ts of the main system parameters on peak d u c t i l i ty demand of the r e s is t in g elements and the maximum la te r a l f lo o r displacement are discussed, including co n flic tin g conclusions reported in the l i te r a tu r e , mainly due to model dependence. The re la t iv e m erits of several modern code provisions are compared. A new system d e f in itio n is proposed to elim inate the model dependence of the re s u lts .
