ABSTRACT
The production of steel has been traditionally preceded by the production of iron through the blast furnace process. The iron produced is then further processed in a steelmaking furnace to make the steel for the desired products. A description of the function of the blast furnace and typical steelmaking furnaces follows. More complete information can be found in Ref. 1.
