ABSTRACT

Rules for the design of bars, beams and thin plates subjected to buckling are given in most national codes. A comprehensive treatment of plate stability problems was published by the ECCS, see Dubas and Gehri, 1986. Recommendations for design of shell structures were published by ECCS in 1988. The present handbook may be considered as a supplement to the kind of documents mentioned. While the ECCS recommendations are adapted for use in the design of steel structures, the Shell Stability Handbook is directed towards a more general description of the buckling behavior. Applications for different materials are described separately, in particular when the elasto-plastic properties differ.
