ABSTRACT
The two electronically excited states immediately above the ground state are both singlet states: one, designated the 1Xg+ state, is very short lived, and rapidly decays to the lower singlet state, designated ]Ag, which has a lifetime of a few microseconds in the condensed phase. The properties of these three states are summarised in Table 3.1.
