ABSTRACT

The goal of dental management of the head and neck oncology patient is to ensure the patient enters their active treatment phase without delay and in possession of a healthy, functional, and well-maintained dentition. If possible, all potential sources of infection should be removed prior to oncologic treatment. The dental treatment plan will be decided with consideration given to the types of anti-cancer treatment, the patient’s wishes and the dentist’s experience and knowledge in the management of other similar patients. Close co-operation between the dental team and the responsible physician is imperative.
